Asteroid 2006 VV2 passed close to Earth on 31st March 2007 - it got as close as about 9 moon distances away (just over 2 million miles). It is due to pass us again on March 17th 2092, but it will be a little further away.

2006 VV2 is about 1.6 kilometers in diameter and was moving through the constellation of Leo at the rate of about one degree/hour.

The animation above records the movement of 2006 VV2 over a period of 854 seconds (just over 14 minutes) a few days before its closest approach.
